I agree with a lot of your post. However, I think you're gravely mistaken about RVC. Although I don't live there (cannot afford the taxes), I think it a wonderful village: education, entertainment, shopping, diversity, beauty, etc. It's all there. One incident in the paper such as the one being discussed could not represent the whole community or what day-to-day living would be like there. I've never noticed the facade or sidewalk issues you've referred to, but I would choose to live in RVC any day over one of those generic fenced-in Florida communities.

Just for the record, Rockville Centre is one of the most desirable communities in Nassau County, and South Side High School is extraordinary. It consistently ranks as one of the top schools in both Long island , as well as New York State. Yes, RVC is an affluent area, and this incident was indeed an unfortunate one. However, there have been similar issues in very wealthy areas on the North Shore which has long been considered the "Gold Coast." Quite frankly, people who make disparaging comments about a community are usually envious because they can't afford to live there themselves. Enough said!

Rockville Centre is also pretty big. It has renters, pubic housing, etc. in addition to million dollar homes.

Look, poop happens... especially in denser environments. The criminals in this case weren't even from Rockville Centre.

All I know is 5 Pennies Creamery in RVC is the best ice cream joint on earth.

First of all, these kids are up against serious charges as they should be. They're punks.

However, this wasn't a random act. The guy who got beat up went after them...he wasn't looking for an "apology", he was looking for revenge after they insulted his wife, and overestimated how tough he was.

The kids, firstly, should not have insulted the woman, and second, should have walked away when hubby came to defend his wifes honor, but they're meatheads so they escalated the situation. Now the guys injured, and they are facing serious life altering charges..unless any of them are the kids of cops, in which case they'll be getting off with a few hours of community service.
