As for all the other areas, I think it might have to do with the size (they might not be large enough for city-data to bother loking at the crime record). Also, Glen Cove & Long Beach are officially cities, so maybe that has something to do with it (I don't know what the story with Hempstead is. Maybe it's just because it has a large population. )
Or maybe they saw all the threads about Hempstead and picked it for that reason.

Do the cities you list maintain their own police departments - or are they protected by the NCPD?
any crime stats needed can be easily accessed on the NCPD website. Nothing's being squashed...
Still not reported in the same fashioned as thousands of other municipalities around the country which allow CD to query the data - allow CD users to spot trends over a long period (up to a decade in many instances) - and allow CD users to compare stats of a given area to the national average.

Tin foil hat aside, crime statistics come from the FBI. They have specific requirements about how jurisdictions report crimes to them and how they report them to the public. FBI policies don't necessarily coincide with the patchwork of local jurisdictions on Long Island.
