Cheap but GOOD B+Bs or motels/hotels on Long Island close to LIRR (off season - November?)
Hey, I'm coming to NY in November for the Macys parade and want to try to stay outside the city perhaps on Long Island.
I am looking for info on any good cottages on the beach say Fire Island area or other parts of long island like Port Jefferson etc. which would have access to commuter rail LIRR into Manhattan.
I would also consider cheap off season rate B+Bs (say between 50-100 a night off season rates)
or motels/hotels around the same price. The key would be to be within driving distance of LIRR stations that have good parking lots and parking spaces available and/or walking distance or short bus or cab ride to the station.
If Anyone knows any good but cheap off season rate B+Bs, motels, cottages etc. particularly ones on or near the ocean and the LIRR that would be great. A cottage would be particularly nice. (those small cottages) maybe on the coast somewhere or a harbor.
Any help would be appreciated as I am coming Nov 21-24th
Thanks

You might be better off staying in manhattan. You can find awesome high end hotels in lower manhattan for cheap on the weekends.

I would do priceline. Select Lower Manhattan. Stay away from any neighborhood on the Parade route.
Take a look to see if the Wall Street Inn has decent rates for your dates of stay. I can frequently get in the $125 night range on weekends.

Is it really necessary to be near a beach, especially in November? There are a few reasonable hotels in Carle Place/Westbury that are within driving distance of either city's railroad.
The closest RR near a beach would probably be Long Beach. I think they built a luxury hotel right on the boardwalk, which means lodging wouldn't be cheap staying there. I'm not familiar with the parking situation at the Long Beach station, but you would be better off taking a cab there and back.

I was just thinking i'd like someplace quiet with a view, away from the city this time. I've done the whole city thing and just want to relax, but be able to get in the city too. but relax in peace and quiet when I get back.
But yeah it doenst have to be right on the beach, I was just wondering if there were any vacation cottages, b+bs that are fairly inexpensive in the off season around Fire Island area or the beaches. but I could stay inland as well if you have any suggestions. Motels/hotels would be acceptable as well if they are GOOD and decently priced.
(I dont know if I want to do priceline because you cant tell the condition of the hotel)
in advance. plus I want to book in advance like by August

Well, if you're looking for quiet and you don't mind a long train commute, you may want to stay farther east along the north or south forks. Alot less people around that time and some parts make you feel like you're in the country. Fire Island is good but then you also have to worry about catching a ferry to and from the main land. I think Southhampton or Westhampton Beach would suit your needs, but I am not sure how much lodging would be. I would assume much cheaper than the summer time.

Another question is... what would be open at the beach that time of year.
WIth Priceline - always bid 4*. I've never been disappointed. Heck, their rates beat my travel industry rates hands down.

The hotel is something in the $300's a night and there's absolutely no parking in Long Beach. I think the hotel has valet but it's probably a fortune. It's a gorgeous hotel but I hope you are loaded if you stay there.
LI doesn't have B&B's that are close to the city. We have some out east but it's like a 2-3 hour commute to the city. IMHO, not worth it if you're going to Manhattan. However, the east end is lovely though.
I gotta be honest with you... I don't know why you would want to go to the parade. I'm sure it is great but the crowds are going to be terrible. Yikes! I'll stay home and watch it on my big flat screen TV.
