I am selling a house in Levittown.
The garage was an add on in 1953, a few years after the house was built.

I am selling the house and am told I need a C.O. for the garage.
Does anyone know if this can be "grandfathered" in since the structure has
existed for over 50 years or do I need to get an expediter to procure one.

Will it depend on the bank when they do the appraisal for the new owners?

The age of the house has nothing to do with anything. It's the age of the thing for which a CO is being required, whether or not it was there when you bought the house, and when you bought the house.

Getting a CO is not rocket science and most people don't need to hire someone to procure one.

Agree with pp. My parents sold their house while banks were giving mortgages to anyone with a beating heart, and their WHOLE HOUSE did not have a CO. They had to get one. Luckily my father the pack rat had the original plans for the house, which had been left 40+ years earlier by the previous owner.

Go to town hall and find out what is needed for your situation. I also don't understand this fascination with expeditors; no doubt you can do this yourself with a little time and effort. I went thru procuring COs two years ago and it was a pain but I got it done and probably faster than an expeditor would have since I had a stake in the speed of the process.
