My friend Maggie will go to USA for her graduate degree next month, but she still didn't find a room in NY, we are not familiar with NY city at all, so i think maybe you guys can help me, oh, her college is Hofstra, she wants to rent a room near there. Does anyone know good houses which can be rented there? About $600/month. She's never been so far away from home, and she's so worried about the room now, All answers will be appreciated! Thank you all in advance!
Honestly, most graduate students at Hofstra are commuters so there aren't a lot of graduate student housing options. I would suggest contacting the Hofstra student housing office to see if they have any type of listing. They also have student housing ads posted on the bulletin board in the student center. You could also call the new medical school and see if they have anything. There should also be a dedicated CL Hofstra classifieds site, accessable with your Hofstra ID. Most rooms would probably be a share in a local house so your friend would still need transportation to the campus.

You mentioned New York City - just in case you don't know, if she is going to be attending the Hempstead campus (tbh not sure if Hofstra has other campuses), it's about 45 minutes to Manhattan by train. Hofstra's main campus is not in New York City.
When I went to college (upstate NY) I had foreign exchange roommates who said the materials from the school featured pictures of NYC and made it seem like NYC was really close to the school. They weren't very happy when they found out NYC was about a 4 hour bus ride away.

Lol that's hilarious! But your roommate is an idiot for not researching the area before coming and at least visiting the school before committing to come. Seems like a no-brainer. Still, hilarious lol.

While I agree in principle, this could have been before Al Gore invented the internet ; that would have made research a bit more cumbersome (like finding and looking at a map? )
Thanks guys for your prompt answers, really appreciated your help! <3
