Looking for advice on a well priced or free? source of mulch - bags or bulk delivery in mid-Suffolk.
Digging through older threads, came across Olsen Nurseries, Lake Ronkonkoma Landscaping and Prianti Farms...
Other ways to get mulch and/or wood chips?
I probably should have asked the tree removal company for the wood chips when they did work in the yard.

---
This may be helpful for others:
The Town of Brookhaven offers free wood chips and compost soil for residents (limit on amount per pick up) at its Wild Life & Ecology Park in Holtsville:

Wildlife & Ecology Center

I did pick up some wood chips but is a small scale operation (I drive a sedan).
The guy there was helpful to advise me that this mixture of wood chips should not go very close to the house siding as it is not pure cedar but other trees and may attract termites. I am using these wood chips on flower beds away from the house.

Yes, the 2 cu ft bags are cheap.

BUT...

Aside from the sizable lawn and the little forest, I have, conservatively, about 700 sq ft in flower beds.
According to these online mulch calculators, I need about 6.5 cu yards of mulch to cover properly the flower beds.
That is 87 of those cheap $4 bags from Home Depot!

Properties and gardens in Suffolk are big.

Smithown limits it to ten bags - with your needs, that's not going very far

Have you checked Craigslist? There are often postings for free garden materials; I don't recall specifically seeing mulch or wood chips, but usually see clean fill, sand, garden stones, so I'd say it's worth a look.

10 bags per trip. The only drawback is it can be a hike, and you have to be a resident.

Yes, 10 bags/trip - cost of gas?
Town of Huntington residents qualify also.
