an argument I get into occasionally...
people i know either view Lindenhurst as having no diversity at all or as a melting pot. I'm one of the latter, however I moved here from Massapequa. For reference, here are the white demographics according to the US Census Bureau:

Lindenhurst Village....85.8% white (non-Hispanic)
North Lindenhurst...71.1% white (non-Hispanic)

According to "Mapping America"...
Venetian Shores (which shares tract with gilgo, oak beach, and captree)...93% white
American Venice (Copiague Schools)....92% white

And according to the NYSED, Lindenhurst School District is 80% white, non-Hispanic.

My opinion: No (except maybe by the water)...because if lindenhurst is as white as a lily, then West Islip and CSH and Massapequa must make lilies look gray.

Lily white is a pretty racist phrase, in case you didn't know. Try replacing it with "tar-black" and see how that looks.

However, "tar-black" would have a much more negative connotation...lily is a pretty flower, tar is, well, tar. How about "ebony black". Does that still sound offensive?

Yea ok. Here you go:

"Is Hempstead an Ebony-Black neigborhood?"

Offensive? Yup.

Well, just put it this way then.

Lindy has mostly cream cheese, and a few capers and black olives on it's bagel.

We prefer bagels that way, and that's why we rent here in Lindy.

No, it's not. And many of the whites that do live there are of the ethnic variety, as well.
