Well for starters we dont get a fair amout of State Aid for schools due to the overinflatred price of our homes.
The way they factor wealth is wrong.

I would think it centers around the higher density of people in downstate. More people paying state income taxes equals higher contibution of taxes for the downstate area. Also downstate salaries tend to be higher, so again more income tax raised for the state from the downstate region.

Personally I like the difference within New York State. Wouldn't want to see my whole state be like Queens or LI.

count me in...We are really more like New England up here. I don't get that same feel from Westchester down.

Does anyone really know the question if Upstate adds to downstate's coifers, or does LI & NYC really carry upstate?

Divide New York into Two States?

I'd rather see it as 4 states: Make Nassau & Suffolk a state (Rhode Island is tiny, but it works for them), NYC -- all boroughs -- another state, southern NYS (using Albany to Binghampton as the northern boundary on south to NJ and the Bronx line) and then the rest of the state as state #4.

It's a win-win for any of us...no more floating the failing NYC schools on our dimes!

How about sawing off Long Island at the Nassau border and floating it back to England?

Imagine...Duke of Plainview...Dutchess of Hempstead...etc.

And, as Mark Twain suggested, one could drape them with advertising signs, making these decorative dunces even marginally useful.

That would be one helluva a saw. How about a large moat instead of floating LI away?
