Thats not really North Bay Shore.
Ackerson is more like North Brightwaters.
This is N. Bay Shore and its 26% White
North Bay Shore, New York (NY) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news
Im talking more like S Shore Mall/Entenmanns/Brentwood Schools..thats MS13 country up there.
Either way..I'd still pick RPNY over Bay Shore.
(I do love Brightwaters/W Bay Shore though)

This is off of Howells Rd, north of Sunrise Hwy., west of 5th ave, just below the SS Pkwy. I worked there. Some friends live there and I address their cards to **** Potters Blvd, Bayshore, NY 11706.
The businesses along Howells Road (south of that neighborhood) are listed as ### Howells Rd Bayshore, NY 11706
Sunrise Hwy is considered Bayshore. Brightwaters starts somewhere around Orinoco Dr. -- further south of Sunrise.

If you look at the map on the city-data link clamboy posted, the hamlet of North Bay Shore is entirely north of the Southern State Parkway. Take a look at this one if that little yellow map is too confusing....
Wikimapia - Let's describe the whole world!
A lot of people probably refer to the section of Bay Shore between SSP and Sunrise as "North Bay Shore" even though it isn't, seems to happen in most areas.

I was going by Mapquest.com. The dot for N Bayshore was N of 27 alongside 5th Ave. Wikimapia is a great site...I have to bookmark it.
So, it's safe to say that the area I described is Bayshore/Bayshore. No 'north' prefix.

To answer the $64,ooo question -- I believe this is where it went awry.
OK back to Sound Beach or Rocky Point.
(Still wondering whether the Chamber of Commerce has made you their new slogan man?)

Yeah surprisingly most maps, even the ones you buy in the store, aren't really all that accurate with the town/village/hamlet boundaries. Even Wikimapia and Google Earth the names are usually centered nowhere near the center of the town....the outlines you see in that link I personally added and copied off the census maps. I'm PRETTY CLOSE to having all of LI done but it's getting harder the further east I go since i don't know these areas as well!
Just to stay somewhat on topic, Rocky Point/Sound Beach is as far as I've gotten on the north shore

Not that it is in any way your fault because I've seen this on other google maps, Rocky Point includes as far west as Westchester Drive and the accompanying side streets, ie oak hills drive, Model Court, Nettie Court. Sound Beach begins once you hid the streets that appear closer together ie Malverne Road, Plandome Road, Babylon Drive. Everything east of these streets is RP.

I looked it up and even though the 11778 zip code covers that area, it's still a part of Sound Beach. I go by the hamlet/village census maps because even though a post office may bear the name of a certain locale, 99.9% of the time it covers an area that is totally out of it's boundaries. It's confusing, but basically the name on your mailing address doesn't even matter...just the five numbers at the end....so if you live in that particular section you should probably change your name to "soundbeachny"

Thats interesting,
I suspect it goes back for years.
I wonder if we share a litttle Shoreham too to the east.
(Our fire district covers parts of Shoreham)
North Shore Beach(Old RP) is really its own little town within Rocky Point.
Its sort of like Sound Beach is its own little town within Miller Place(even though half of SB goes to RP Schools).
Confusing eh?
New RP does line up with Sound Beach to the West.
Totally different zoning/towns though...you'll find Acre+ zoning over there in New RP.
Its much more like Miiler Place or Shoreham over there.
Most plots in Sound Beach are closer to 40-80x100 (and 80-100x100 in Old RP)
Not too bad for 2 x $89.75
If You're Thinking of Living In/Sound Beach, L.I.;In 1929, $89.75 for a 20-by 100-Foot Lot - New York Times
I wish I bought in '29...hell I wish I bought in '96.
Good post.
