Rocky Point is by far the best bang for the buck on the North Shore.

A true community in every sense of the word.

Great Schools, Reasonable Taxes, Miles of Beachfront and a 5000 acre Nature Preserve to boot.

We love it here.

We're proud to call it home

Do you remember the wild fires way back in 1995? That was freaky! The bypass wasn't built then, and there were no houses built into the preserve -- could you imagine how close for comfort that would have been for them?

One thing I always loved was driving home to Rocky Point from the LIE. As soon as I reached Whiskey Rd the drive through the preserve made me feel as though I had left LI and was heading somewhere else. I wonder how many other people got that same feeling?

I miss that drive, I now commute to Hauppauge VIA 25A, Everything looks like Generica all the way there. You know, since the Peach Farm disappeared in Mt Sinai, and the condos were built along with the stop & shop in Miller Place, I feel like we have no buffer from the sprawl its right at our doorstep. -sigh- Thank God we have the Preserve & the Bypass!

Amen on the 25a Generica.

It just sucks.... I miss the peach farm.
Mt Sinai and Miller Place are a horror show.

Rocky Point and Sound Beach are probably the most un LI towns on the North Shore.
(Thank God for the 25a bypass...and to think they were ridiculed for building it way back when)

At the rate were going, LI will resemble Manhattan someday.
I just feel lucky to be living by the water ....near our future Central Park.

You're taking 25A to Hauppauge from out east? UGH!

Don't you get hung up going from PJ to Stony Brook Rd? I hate the light on 25A at Nicolls if I have the misfortune of heading west in the morning rush. I've seen it back up halfway to Bennetts Rd.

Then the intersection of 25A/25/111 is another nightmare

The ride on 25A from St James (over by Mirabella) heading east to Stony Brook (by the Museums/Main St) is still a pretty nice ride. The stores in St James are mostly mom and pops (save for 7-11 and a as station) and once in HOH, it's homes, farms and Gyrodyne. That's my favorite portion of the ride.

Agreed.

I avoid 25a/347 like the Cross Bronx.

North Country is my E-W route.

Shore Rd in Mt Sinai is cool.

When I head out to RP N Country and Shore are the only way I'll go.

25A is great when there's no traffic, though North Country is even better. When I'm heading out east and I know the roads aren't gonna be jam packed, I'll take 25A all the way from 135 to Orient.

347 is my least favorite road on Long Island, though Nichols Road is way up there too.

I'm a frequent flier on 25A between Stony Brook and Kings Park, occasionally Huntington. It is pleasant when there's no traffic, and most of the time I am driving at off hours (except once a week from KP when it is at 5PM heading east -- and even then, it is a predictable ride, 28-30 mins.)

Nicolls is the pits when SUNY and SCC are in session. There's some road improvement project going on by SCC and South Coleman, we'll see if that helps things at all.
