I was wondering what would be the approximate cost of adding approximately 500 sq foot addition over the living room kitchen and dining room area of my split level home in east meadow. The stairs would go up through my linen closet and then I would want a master bedroom and bath added.

A good ball park would be $100,000+. I assume you have attic space up there?

Personally, I think the house would look lopsided. Me, I'd just raise the entire roof and complete a third floor.

A split level already has three "floors".

Dcwjd, there are different "types" of split level homes. Do you have the "front-to-back" split (the smallest version) or another type? Do you have a cathedral ceiling in your dining room?
With some splits, adding a room over the garage is a viable option

We have a side by side split level home. About 50% of the homes on our block have this addition above the kitchen, living room and dining room floor. Basically you would be finishing the attic in this area. No cathedral ceilings in this area just the attic that is accessed through my linen closet. Above our garage is the floor with bedrooms.

I've seen a lot of these. They can look really nice if done properly. No idea of price but the only way to get a price is to interview some contractors.
