If you can switch to gas I think it's cheaper in the long run.

is there any specific time when to do a conversion, or can it be done year round? do they jack the price up in the winter or anything like that?

does anyone know how many ppl on one block is needed to have the gas company run the line for free? im about 225ft away from the gas main and its going to cost me 10K+ to get it done. as of now im running y mini splitter units and my solar panels are paying for the electric cost. i filled up once so far this year at the end of January. im at a quarter tank now and will need a fill up in the next couple of weeks.

From what I understand, they'll need everyone between you and the gas main to convert in order for the cost of the line to be free.

Same here. Hubby converted to gas a few weeks after he bought the house, cost only around $ 5-6K tops. We will not consider moving to another house unless there is gas service available, for that reason I refuse to live in Levittown or areas where the only option is Oil heat.

I hope posting this link doesn't constitute advertising. I use these guys. Their prices are usually better than anyone's. Whether you use them or not, these prices are a good indicator...

3.59 may seem good for the winter but being stuck with it for a year concerns me. I filled up in July for 3.00/gallon.

I use them too, but like a fool I waited until last week to fill my oil tank. Paid $3.70/gal.

I switched in october 2011, already had gas in coming for stove and hot water so it was an easy job and did not cost an arm and a leg. Goodbye to oil hello to gas.
