Did anybody else see the low flying ( what looked and sounded like ) a commercial airliner over the Manorville / Riverhead area around 7pm? I was sitting at the table eating dinner and heard what sounded like a large airliner at very low alttitude flying over my home. I ran outside and saw a commercial airliner no more the 1500-2000 feet in the air. Never in my life, living on eatern long island have I seen a large airliner ( 737/747 ) that low to the ground. It was heading due east, but the turned north and then north west. The engines did not sound healthy either.....thats what actaully got me out of my seat to begin with. As soon as I saw the jet, i thought it was crashing. Thankfully not..........
Anybody else see this?
PS. I know there are some old bomber type planes that take off from the westhampton air national guard base.....it deffinately was not one of those. We see those often.
Yes !!! I saw it too!! I was driving east on the LIE around 7:30 and first saw it heading west on the south side so I figured it was going to JFK. Then it banked over the LIE towards LGA -- but then it banked again and began a descent so low that I have never seen large jet like that (no name on it either!) so close to the ground!! It came back over the LIE and headed west again but honestly I have no idea where it possibly could have gone. Soo wierd and I would love some definitive answers..... anyone ????
We had a helicopter fly so low over our home in Northern Nassau the other night that it shook the entire house. It's good to know that Chuck Schumer is making such great progress on getting air traffic diverted away from residential areas. If we made printouts of all the news releases he's done on the issue, maybe we could use them for sound insulation.
Recently, we have had, on some days, several low flying planes over East Northport. Something we never had in the past. It looks like they are banking in to land at either Laguardia or Kennedy.
