We have some kids and adult clothing and coats mostly new or great shape that we would normally put in the donation bin but I know many people need it more immediately after losing stuff to flooding. Anyone know where there are any clothing/coat drives in the Levitt/Wantagh area or thereabouts?

Thanks.

BTW which aid groups are showing up and actually helping? I'm looking to donate but I don't fully trust the Red Cross.

St. Agnes Church in Rockville Center has an outreach office. We adopt a family through them and I have volunteered there. They do great work! I have volunteered there in the past.

Mongoose, I think your best bet is a church that has experience with this kind of thing. Many churches in wealthier areas already partner with those in poorer areas. St. Agnes is probably a good bet. St. Pat's in Huntington has good outreach but farther from you. St. Anne's in Garden City partners with St. Anne's in Brentwood. Maybe some of the bigger south shore churches are helping (thinking of St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa). They get the stuff directly where it's needed.

Goodwill and places like that don't usually do direct donations - they sell the stuff and use the money for programs.

Check with your local Fire Department. I know that the North Bellmore FD was running a clothing drive for people who were victims of the storm. They were also accepting donations of bedding, blankets, towels, etc.

I'll check with OLOG in West Babylon, should be close enough to the damage to do something direct in my home town area.

I'm out east of the canal in the Hamptons and can not find anyone running a collection. I just left message at the Fire Department and local papers to see if either knew of one.

Thanks. Seems many fire houses are collecting and also at cedar creek in seaford (FEMA or Red Cross). Possibly the red cross shelter in Levittown, too. All of the church/thrifts sell goods and use the money for services. Nothing wrong with that, but I have some good coats I'm hoping to get on the backs of those who lost all their stuff.

I know that St. Agnes outreach in RVC does not sell, they pass the items directly to families. But you are right that many thrifts sell.
