Relying on a map that shows city, town, village and postal zone, but not hamlet, borders, in its weekly (Friday) Community Profile, NEWSDAY once again mistakes the borders of a same-named postal zone for the borders of the community whose name the postal zone "shares".
Here's the NEWSDAY Community Profile: East Quogue
East Quogue, New York: Real Estate, Schools and News
Once known as Atlanticville, East Quogue is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the west section of the Town of Southampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.
As occurs in every one of Suffolk County's 157 communities (0 cities, 32 villages and 125 hamlets), the Hamlet of East Quogue has a different border than does the "East Quogue, NY 11942" postal zone (i.e., a place can have an East Quogue mailing address and not be in East Quogue and a place can have other than an East Quogue mailing address and be in East Quogue):
Those places that have an "East Quogue, NY" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of East Quogue are in the Hamlet of Hampton Bays, the Hamlet of Flanders and the Village of Quogue; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of East Quogue with a "Quogue, NY 11959" and a "Westhampton Beach, NY 11978" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):
