No one thinks places like Syosset and Plainview are "upper class" except the people that live there.

Plainview is certainly just middle class as is most of Syosset, but both have pretensions to being upper class. Any place where the residents are worried about how they are perceived are almost always just middle class. The upper class never worry about such things (nor does the working class BTW) - they are confident in their class status and have no need to explain anything. I mean, could you imagine someone in Muttontown having to explain that they are really upper class?

no, because they would not care. And, more than likely they would not be reading this thread. Well, except for those people who owned slaves. Now, there is a weird story about the alleged upper (classless) class.

Right.

Right again. In fact I'd bet that most of us on these boards are from the anxiety ridden middle class/working class.

I think the Syosset story is very sad. Sure, the person who bought the land has the right to develop the land, but it's still taking away people's homes.
