Actually primates learn from imitation. Humans learn from inherited traits and societal and parental conditioning.

It has already happend here. No one would remember this but me.

In 1966, a Long Island teacher was shot and fatally wounded when he tried to stop a 16-year-old student who was walking through the halls of Bay Shore Senior High School with a shotgun, searching for some boys with whom he had an argument earlier that day.

It's not just handguns!

RIP John

The kid who did the shooting grew up and lived in a "good school district" with very good resources when it came to treatment of Autism. Not to mention his family seemed to be reasonably well-off so they had the resources to treat his autism better than most other families. The shooter was considered a "higher-functioning autistic", which is clear since he had a drivers license and drove a car which shows he had a ton of money invested in him anyways.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not disagreeing with the fact that this country's mental health system needs to be revamped but in this particular case, it wouldn't have changed circumstances.
He didn't have autism he had PDD....the 2 are completely different , Autistic aren't violent at least aside from tantrums and meltdowns and those are rather same and contained.... PDD on the other hand tends to be violent and explosive theres no containment for these people.

So social learning theory has no basis in human psychology? Albert Bandura was absolutely incorrect?

They're actually pretty practical because many would be on desk duty. Better to have them on site at a school than sitting around the precinct house.

"it could make a shooter think twice about entering."

most of these creeps end up killing themselves, i dont think teachers with guns will make them think twice.
most of these creeps are mentally wacked out, i dont think they are capable of thinking twice.
what do you do when the faculty you arm, is the one who goes crazy, and shoots up a school

If you want to toss around Psych 101, at least get it right. Bandura clearly said about observational learning that:

1. Observational learning does not necessarily lead to a change in behavior.

2. "While behaviorists believed that learning led to a permanent change in behavior, observational learning demonstrates that people can learn new information without demonstrating new behaviors."

3. Bandura believed aggression reinforced by family members was the most prominent source of behavior modeling. Not music and art.

All notes from grad level criminology studies. Fairly pertinent to the topic at hand, I'd say.

A metal detector is going to do squat when an armed gunman shoots the window/door and walks in and starts spraying the rooms.

First of all what a tragedy in Newton, lives ruined forever..I feel so bad. Words can not describe. I don't know if I could live if I found out my child was shot by a ruthless monster. For some reason I feel equally if not worse then the tragedy of 9/11.

No one and nothing can stop a killer who wants to kill. Ban guns , ban games...no way wont work. Some people are just f'n crazy. It is the parents or someone else who needs to stop them before they go postal. Damn kids today on so many meds...anti depressant, prozak. Give me a break. They need a good beating and a parent to set them straight.

I grew up with games, movies, bloody movies, a gun in the house..not locked. I would never in a billion zillion years ever touch the gun, shoot it, shoot anyone.
