In response to the earlier question, Deer Hills has been used by some to refer to that section of Deer Park that borders Dix Hills. Similarly, "Deerwood" is used by some to denote that section of Brentwood close to Deer Park, in the Bay Shore Rd. vicinity.

People use that to refer to the area South of Pulaski, near Little Plains Road, which, by the way is Huntington.

Could you be referring to that part of the Hamlet of Greenlawn that is in the service area of the "Huntington, NY 11743" postal zone or to that part of the Hamlet of Huntington that has a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address?

Greenlawn is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.

The Hamlet of Greenlawn has a different border than does the "Greenlawn, NY 11740" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a Greenlawn mailing address and not be in Greenlawn and a place can have other than a Greenlawn mailing address and be in Greenlawn):

Those places that have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Greenlawn are in the Hamlet of Huntington and the Hamlet of Elwood; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Greenlawn with a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address.

Add Plainedge to the Nassau list. It is a geographic area, no post office and consists of parts of Island Trees, N Massapequa, Bethpage and Farmingdale. It is a school district, has no zip code.

I'm having a good laugh here -- there were a few letters to the editor of the Village Times Beacon Herald Record (Whatever they are calling themself now) in which a long time resident and a fairly recent resident disputed with one another what is real Setauket vs East Setauket.

The only thing I can remember is that parts of East Setauket are west of real Setauket. UGH!

Setauket and East Setauket got combined at some point into one hamlet called "Setauket-East Setauket", "Remsenberg-Speonk" is another one on LI like that...so I'd say these fall into the "fake area" category, but only due to odd, backwards technicalities. I don't live out there, but I'm seriously doubting anyone refers to them by their "proper" names.

Here's some true fakes:

Biltmore Shores, Nassau Shores (Massapequa)
Mandalay (Wantagh)
Colony Bay (Baldwin Harbor)

And some real ones that don't have post offices:
Lakeview
Garden City Park
Stewart Manor
Terryville
Flower Hill
Munsey Park
Thomaston
Malverne Park-Oaks
South Hempstead

Plainedge is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the southeast part of Nassau County, (along the Oyster Bay/Hempstead town line).

Plainedge is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet's name as part of their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Plainedge have a "Massapequa, NY 11758", a "Levittown, NY 11756", a "Bethpage, NY 11714", a "Seaford, NY 11783" or a "Farmingdale, NY 11735" mailing address.
