Barnum Island? |

West Hills is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County, along the Nassau/Suffolk County line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of West Hills in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor and the Hamlet of Huntington Station; on the east by the Hamlet of Huntington Station and Hamlet of South Huntington; on the south by the Hamlet of Melville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Woodbury in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County (the Suffolk/Nassau County line and the Huntington/Oyster Bay Town line). West Hills is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in West Hills have either a "Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724", "Huntington, NY 11743", "Huntington Station, NY 11746", or "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address. |

Barnum Island? That for sure doesn't have it's own zip or post office...it's an area of island park.

The last line of a place's mailing address is actually "postal city/town, postal state and ZIP Code". For the NYS definition of county, city, town, village, hamlet or postal zone: NYS Geographic Glossary |

I was gonna post those maps in here originally, guess I should have cuz that thread was deleted ![]() There's also a Nassau County version available online, but it's much harder to navigate. Step 1: Go to Land Record Viewer Step 2: Click on "Property Search", click the "I accept the conditions..." button. Step 3: Click on "MAP" in the top bar From there you can zoom in/out. Green = village, Yellow = unincorporated (hamlet), and Brown = City. I think if I'm bored later I'll photoshop that map and break it down by towns, like the Suffolk ones are. |
