My aunt and uncle live on Motor Parkway, it seems like an ok area, not sure about the side streets since they live on the main stretch. Alot of mixed architecture, reminds me of a flat Rocky Point. It's Connetquot School District which is well ranked, so that is a plus.

Connequot schools are solid. The community is a mix of working class and professional which I think is rare on the island. I'd prefer Connequot (spelling?) over Sachem simply based on the size of the districts. Sachem even after being split is huge. It's location is convenient as well to the LIE while not being right on the service road.

I live near the Lake Hills area and it's a nice, well kept neighborhood. The terrain south of Motor Parkway features many hills and sloping streets which give a rustic feel. I think Connetquot is a fine district.

Just watch out for groundwater/basement flooding problems in any house near Lake Ronkonkoma. There've been articles in Newsday about major problems for years in certain parts of LR, Ronkonkoma, and Nesconset. Don't even think of buying a house in that area without hiring a really good home inspector to thoroughly examine it first.
I don't care how good a school district is, it's not worth taking a chance on ending up with "This (m)Old(y) House".....!

I heard there are gangs and drug users that hand around the lake hills area. Can you shed some light on that? Thanks for any info. I;m supposed to go to contract this week on a house there in lake hills.

Ummm...not really. Just because somebody might have been stabbed along Portion Rd. one time this year does not mean there is a gang and drug problem any better or worse than a typical long island town. I have been to the local elementary schools for various functions over the years. Unless these gangs are pretending to be soccer moms, you should be pretty safe..

You have to watch out for the Minivan Crew or the SUV13.

Yes, I have read about the flooding. I think the area may be called Charles Court, down by the lake. Make sure you know the topography of the area if you are located too close to the lake.
