That sounds awesome. Hopefully Kate & Co won't 'Lighthouse' this project.

'Lighthouse' the project... he he he... that's pretty funny.
Seriously, the area is at best stagnated and otherwise another example of economic and structural decay on LI. The Coliseum is a sad reminder of what could have and should have been.
Given the news about possible development in this area, I think we should embrace it. It's not like they'll be developing pristine wilderness or wetlands.

Looks like the same filler "news" that's surfaced every now and then since the Lighthouse was shot down.
A $2-$3 billion development with public-private funding? Rail links? I'll believe it when I see it.
The Wall Street Journal (Nassau County's Biotech Dream - WSJ.com ) reports the new plan is the brainchild of Don Monti. He's a developer of hotels, shopping malls and office towers on Long Island.
His biotech campus would be linked to a 92-acre residential, retail and commercial development by light rail or a special bus route.
Monti estimates it would cost between $2 billion to $3 billion. His proposal could change following community feedback.
Monti still needs to negotiate a deal with Nassau, find an anchor tenant and secure financing.

So, what kind of track record does Monti have?
Monti was one of the developers in the mix for the Hub right before the Islanders announced the move to Brooklyn. Anything he does at the Coliseum parcel is likely contingent upon the progress and success of his mega-plan for downtown Hempstead.
The Newsday article was tempered and mildly optimistic. Bio-tech campus and smaller arena (and the word's minor league team were tossed in). Sounds like good stuff to me. Anything that isn't 55+ apartments or straight retail (i.e. MALL) is a step in the right direction.
