Remember those all purpose general store or 5 & 10 stores from your youth days...are any still around?

Long gone. Yes, many fond memories of the neat toys I could purchase with my $.25 weekly allowance. I remember Woolworths, WT Grant, Whelans and a catalog store, Montgomery Ward.

J & R on Carman Avenue in Westbury - amazing inventory for such a small store. Would much rather stop in there than get involved in Home Depot. I think they have a Massapequa location also. Used to be one on Newbridge Road and Levittown Parkway, but it closed.

I worked in a 5&10 during HS; in many ways it resembled a general store. So many different things in such a small place.

Raindew stores in Nassau remind me of the old 5&10s...it's the kind of place that seems to have everything. There's one in FLoral Park, Manhasset and I can't remember where else.

McLellan's 5&10 - I can still hear in the squeaky wood floors as I would run around the store.

One in Wantagh on Wantagh Ave near Park Ave. Called a 5&10 but it's really a more high end and insanely stocked 99 cent store. If they don't have it, you don't need it.

I think that the one in Northport closed, but is the store in Sag Harbor still around?

The one in Saint James is really more of a tourist place.
