Obviously the smaller the district the greater the success if you not accounting for how many students took the test.
I was not aware of that.

Thats why in Suffolk the Hamptons districts are way up and the larger districts like Longwood are way down.
It makes perfect sense to me.Thats very unfair.

Nassau runs much smaller districts so that skews the overall numbers even worse as you compare the two.
(I thought Suffolks population surpassed Nassau years ago...no?)

Is there a better measuring stick then this?
This ones effed brother.

How about Regents Diploma Graduates separated by county?
Or Free Lunch % etc.

Thank you for your effort on this.

C
Suffolk's population is higher, but only by about 5% - but Suffolk also has nearly three times the amount of land. That means the population density is higher in Nassau....specifically there are 4,655 people per square mile (on average) in Nassau versus 1,556 people per square mile (on average) in Suffolk, that's the reason Nassau districts are more confined to any given area. I think there were 57 Suffolk County high schools and 56 Nassau County in total, which would mean there's actually more students per district/school in Nassau.

I'm guessing a district like Longwood (which I'm not familiar with at all) covers an area that has parts nice and parts not so nice, and that's why you're saying the test scores may be skewed? I guess that's not fair to the smart kids at any given school, but the numbers aren't fudged or misrepresented. That's what you get for living out in the boonies! (KIDDING!!!) I'll always say (and am saying now) I don't think these test scores really matter one iota as to what kind of education you're going to get -- these don't even take math scores into account -- but they aren't biased one way or another, they are what they are...though the more I think about my limited knowledge of some of these districts, I'm thinking these are actually a pretty good indicator with some obvious anomalies.

I could do free lunch by school, and I think Regents diplomas....although, if I'm doing county vs. county (outside of districts) then the numbers WILL be slightly skewed since it's not taking into account actual numbers of students per district....

Hi Sean

I'm not entrely sold that an area thats smaller than Brookhaven needs that many schools.

Thats very boutique.
Its like they surgically removed the poverty and pooled in into a few districts.

Do whatever looks the purest.

The Town of Brookhaven has a population density of 599.4 people per square mile....that's like an 1/8th the amount of people in Nassau for, like you said, the same area. The amount of students per school are roughly equal between the counties, with Nassau having slightly MORE per district.

I was in Macarthur a decade ago too but that incident you're talking about was even further back. Think it was something over a bad coke deal, the kid lived in my neighborhood and did jail time....I heard he did pretty well for himself, legally, after he got out. MacArthur and all of Levittown was GRIMY back in the 80s/90s....it's completely changed. There's still no security there and no need for it.

No, this was a different incident. This was a jealous boy (who wasn't an Mac student) pulling a gun on his girlfriend in the school cafeteria. This occurred in 1996 or 1997.

Why go to LI. Go north. Stay away from the most expensive area in the tri state. We moved from Deer Park LI 2 years back. We had a 75x123 ft lot. Split level 3/4 br, 1.5 ba. We sold at just the right time.
In -ground pool, landscaped front and back. And our taxes were over $9000.

Unless you have an annual of 80,000. Move out east where ir's not bad for another 2-4 years.

Otherwise look way out of the Tri state area. The cost of living is just to great and it's going to get alot worse on Long Island.

I can say that the following to my knowledge are good districts: Herricks, Carle Place, Mineola and RVC. That doesnt mean that the others are not good, I dont know about them personally. good luck to you!

I don't think that Babylon has gangs per se. West Babylon either, really. There are groups of kids who are troublesome, but you would find that anywhere including beautiful Cold Spring Harbor (Ricky Kasso anyone?) . Not Commack which is a pretty white bread community. After all Rosie O'Donnell was the homecoming queen there .

Plainview-Old Bethpage (Plainview-Old Bethpage)..................232.7 (N/2%)

Roslyn High School is ranked pretty high on this list, but their free lunch % is relatively high compared to the other high ranking schools (12% vs 0% to5%). Any idea why?
