As for law enforcement, the only department in the area still hiring (or, at least, still hiring people without serious hooks) is NYC, but it can take upwards of 2 years to get off the list and into the academy, and that's assuming you perform well enough on the civil service test to get off the list at all. You're correct that DOC is hiring, but keep in mind that DOC is a state-wide agency, and you could get posted at any facility in the state (in other words, there's no guarantee at all that you will be placed in a facility that's commuting distance from Long Island). I wish there was better news for you, but, well, there isn't.
Ill just have to take a much slower approach to everything it seems out there no one can say i didnt at least give it a try you know?

The car culture has been slayed and it IS now parked cars in parking lots, WE Are not ANYWHERE near what our culture was...

NOT EVEN CLOSE, our culture is now been banished to stories in parking lots....

I have no idea WTH kind of culture that is, but it is surely not what i grew up with when we had more than 8 operating facilities in my days and more than 40 before that...

Guns, right, yeah they allow traditional skeet, and your single shot rifle range, and some indoor pistols ranges.... Oh wait, you don't have a NY pistol license for target shooting (don't even think or try for full carry, my advice there just do it, and never use it to save any other persons life except yours, trust me on that too, if you see a family of 8 kids being executed just walk away or YOU will do more time than the killer)
The private ranges are better but you need a friend in there already and then kiss some ass a little spend an exuberant amount of money...
Otherwise you have Calverton (very depressing range), Ridge (your single shot range, no good guns, so semi or auto fire) i believe there are only 4 non member ranges...
Nothing great either, we don't have any useable 400 yd or better, no combat style stuff...

The nearest drag strip is more than 2 hours, and coming back, lol 4 or 5 hours, not to mention the tolls and other nonsense make it a cool $300 trip and food is additional.

Road racing, 3 hours there and nearly twice that back... NJ
CT lime rock, about the same
Watkins Glen, 9 hours...

Oh and no recreational riding or 4x trails stuff either... and no walking your dog on any land or parks..

Honestly if i was you, and im serious , this area sucks for fun and you should sit down and see exactly what your GF really wants, this island is DEAD and it likes to keep people that live DEAD....

.

Yep people on the island are doing as their told like being walked into Shawshank prison handcuffed to each other ive already made my mind up that im gone not sure of the time frame though i never will understand long islands goverment that lets drug dealer walk away out of the courtroom a free person
while a ATV rider gets scolded by a judge
and people fighting over land because there a Moderator cut: language removed

Enjoy your fast food after all thats all you got.

Lmfao, you know you're right, if everyone really looked at this place they'd be like WTFF!!!!!!

Riding a ATV or Dirt bike or 4x vehicle which is doing no harm will get you a judge talking to you like you're a pos society scum... Special unit cops to get you doing something that isn't harming others..... and isn't that idea of this country to pursue your freedom and happiness without harming others.....
The drug dealer and vandall and other society scum and illegals crashing into people with no license and making this island a sanctuary for illegals.... No problem...

Really all this island is are parking lots, stores, ind parks, congestion , nothing changing for the positive and some beaches....

I feel sorry for you,I was beginning to think I was the only one. I guess the news media gives the re elected administration a pass on this problem as we don't hear much about it on the evening news anymore. It makes one think His /Her service to the USA might have been in vane and its not a good feeling.
