Thanks again for your help. At least now my son can pay the ticket and has learned not to let his inspection lapse. It doesn't pay for him to lose a day of school and work over the slight chance that the ticket could be tossed for not being filled out properly or jurisdiction issues.
Seems to me when I lived on the Island, you couldn't renew your registration without the inspection stamp on it. Certainly avoided situations such as this.

I've let mine lapse once or twice in the past, just fortunate not to get summons. Lesson learned for your son. Good luck.

Registrations in NY are good for two years, inspection only one.

I thought you said the cost of the ticket isn't written on it.
Now the $64,000 question -- is the ticket valid if the bottom of the ticket is left completely blank?
Ticket is defective if it isnt signed by the officer issuing it.
