Question Pine Brook

Does anyone know where the hydrologic source of Pine Brook is located. I lived in West Hempstead in the middle 50s and 60s when the creek ran clear and strong in its natural stream bed. It is so sad to see what it has become. We played in the wooded corridor on both sides of the creek and watched the new houses take away our playground. We would follow the creek up the Hempstead Turnpike and I remember a stream bed near the Garden City South Little League fields. I would guess the historic springs that were the source of the creek were located up near Adelphi or the Cherry Valley Golf Course. Does anyone know exactly where the site is?
