We were getting ahead until our tenants trashed the house and we are using most of our savings to get it redone. And I am not talking granite or stainless steel here.

We're living comfortably, but definitely not getting rich by living here. (I voted "getting by".)

We've been discussing moving since DH's career/job doesn't require that we live on LI. We would have moved by now if I didn't live near my family. Being that my husband travels often (and obviously out of the country), it's comforting to both him, myself and my family that we're close each other in case something happens and I need a hand.

Ideally we'd like to move someplace where we could have 15+ acres for horses and such.

Even though I left (in September) I had to vote. Long Island is not the end and be all of the world. I have to say that that worst trait of a Long Islander (not all, but many) is this idea that no place else has jobs, nice homes, scenery, good food, good schools.

Luckily my fiance and I are both NYC teachers and the salaries go up often. So it's comfortable to know that they're increasing with the cost of living rising.
