Default Bill O'Reilly, Levittown or not Levittown?

Bill O'Reilly claims that he grew up in Levittown. But, is that true?

About two years ago, there was a NEWSDAY article, "Radio host roots out the truth about a rival", that included the following, "But when (Al) Franken interviewed Hofstra professor and Levittown expert Barbara Kelly (Associate Professor at the LI Studies Institute at Hofsta University) on the air, he learned there was no lie to uncover."

The article concludes, "O'Reilly, Kelly declared, had grown up in Levittown, in an area that overlapped with the outskirts of Westbury."

Associate Professor Barbara Kelly's answer is not accurate.

There was not then, and neither is there now, any overlap between Levittown and Westbury:

While the Levittown, NY 11756" postal zone has a common border, but no overlap, with the "Westbury, NY 11590" postal zone, the Hamlet of Levittown does not have a common border, and no overlap, with the Village of Westbury, because, prior to 1990, these two communities were separated from each other by the intervening Hamlet of East Meadow (that part of East Meadow that is now part of the Hamlet of Salisbury). Each of these three communities: the Hamlet of Levittown, the Village of Westbury and the Hamlet of East Meadow, as in the case of almost every other community in either Nassau or Suffolk Counties, are in the service area of non-conforming postal zones.

Adding another layer of confusion to an already confusing geography, effective with the 1990 Federal census, South Westbury was renamed Salisbury and the eastern part of what was is now Salisbury was then that part of the Hamlet of East Meadow that was in the Westbury, NY and in the Levittown, NY postal zone (but, here too, no overlap).

Unraveling the confusion: a thin slice in the extreme eastern part of the Hamlet of Salisbury (what had been prior to 1990, part of the Hamlet of East Meadow) is in the service area of the "Levittown, NY 11756" postal zone, and hence these places in the Hamlet of Salisbury (what had been prior to 1990, part of the Hamlet of East Meadow) have a "Levittown" mailing address. At the same time, the majority of the Hamlet of Salisbury is in the service area of the "Westbury, NY 11590" postal zone, and hence these places in the Hamlet of Salisbury have a "Westbury" mailing address.

Without the exact street address, I would guess that Bill O'Reilly's house might have been in either Levittown or in East Meadow (Levittown P.O.) then or what is Salisbury (Levittown P.O.) now, immediately adjacent to East Meadow (Westbury P.O.) then or what is Salisbury (Westbury P.O.) now.

The piece of paper he flashed on TV for his parents' house/property said Levittown right on it.

He's an Assclown.

He and Hannity both need a hot cup of ****.

I wish they'd stop emabarrassing us by telling people that they're from Long Island.

I have more respect for Cap'n Kangaroo and Howard Stern.

If these are our hometown heros ...Im moving to Jersey.

Having "Levittown" in a place's mailing address does not necessarily mean that place is in the Hamlet of Levittown:

There are places that have a "Levittown, NY 11756" mailing address that are in the Hamlet of Plainedge and in the Hamlet of Salisbury* (and, there are places in the Hamlet of Levittown that have a "Bethpage, NY 11714", a "Wantagh, NY 11793" or a "Seaford, NY 11783" mailing address).

From the limited information provided, O'Reilly's family home could've been in what is now the Hamlet of Salisbury (Levittown P.O.), what pre-1990 was the Hamlet of East Meadow (Levittown P.O.).

* Prior to 1990, this very small part of the Hamlet of Salisbury that was in the "Levittown, NY 11756" postal zone was then part of the Hamlet of East Meadow.

I am not really sure. Why is Levittown considered a better place to be from than (the current) Westbury? I mean, it's not Old Westbury that he's insisting that he isn't really from.
Doesn't he live in Manhasset anyway?

Currently, O'Reilly may be residing in one of the several villages that are in the service area of the "Manhasset, NY 11030" postal zone.

The area he is really from as mentioned above is likely Salisbury, an area which while not exactly a rich area, is a bit wealthier than Levittown. Higher incomes, property values

For those who may not be familiar with Plandome Manor:

Plandome Manor is a village (incorporated in 1931) is in the center-north section of the Town of North Hempstead, in the northwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Plandome Manor is bordered on the north and east by the Hamlet of Port Washington, on the east by the Village of Flower Hill, on the south by the Village of Plandome and on the west and north by Hempstead Harbor.

Plandome Manor is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name in their mailing address: places within the Village of Plandome Manor have a "Manhasset, NY 11030" mailing address.
