Jaysus, $775 for 2 months in NY. The highest I've paid on a 3 story house in NC including one of the hottest summers on record is $250 for one month (last August) - the next highest bills have been $216 (the previous 2 Augusts).

I put some of this to the inspector -- who I thought was good -- and he sent me a return e-mail with a load of made-up gobbledygook about how he had told me it would cost way more, etc., etc.

However, I recall the conversation exactly as follows:
Me (pointing to compressors): "These look pretty old, huh?"
Him: "Yeah, they would cost about $2,500 to replace."
And then we went on to the next item.

Well, I've learned not only the real cost of replacing the AC. I've also learned that I probably wouldn't use this joker again.

There is no comparison between NY and NC. The electric rates on Long Island are probably the highest in the U.S., except for Hawaii.

Not everybody in NC has low electric rates. Most do.... but some areas when all is said and done pay close to .20 per KwH.

I'm one of the unfortunates........at least it's just a seasonal property.
