Wow! I was not aware that all places did not have real bakeries. We had them when I went to school in Wisconsin , visited FLA, OR, CA. and other states and I just thought every place had them. No Las Vegas for me, then .

The Black Forest in Lindenhurst is an example of the old-time bakeries that I remember as a child (in the 1890s).

It's one of the things I've gotten used to Nancy....you learn to do without. I remember going into Patsy's Bakery in Lindenhurst, ordering the coffee cake from the display case and asking for it to be sliced in half and filled with whipped cream....
Here...unless it's Entenmann's, you can't even find the coffee cake...
However, some of our supermarkets have in-house bakeries...not too, too bad, but very limited selection and a lot of pre-packaged items. I still want to walk in a old fashioned bakery and see the display case chock full of stuff, fresh baked...with no factory pre-packaged anything!

I like Dortoni's in Levittown, Copenhagen Bakery in Northport, and that place with "boulangerie" in the name in Port Jeff. YUM!

Bonne Boulangerie is the same family as Dortoni's.

Reinwalds...I wonder if they are affiliated with the Reinwalds my mother used to go to...can't remember if it was in New Hyde Park or Franklin Square.

Dortoni's in Levittown used to be my favorite bakery until I tried Francesco's in Hicksville. Coincidentally, after trying Francesco's Bakery and loving the cookies, cakes and brownies, a few months later my girlfriend started dating the owner and is now engaged to him. I still like Dortoni's but Francesco's is by far my favorite bakery.
