Your favorite Long Island bakery?
Since clamboy occasionally brings up the subject of bread...
Do you have a favorite bakery? and what are their specialties?
Mine is JACQUELINE'S PATISSERIE in the Village of Babylon. Its on Montauk Hwy (Rte 27a) at the very easternmost end of the village (if you're coming west on 27a, or south on 231 and take the righthand fork at the end to go into the village, it's on the righthand side just past the Clam Bar which is the first intersection as you enter the village).
My favorites there:
Pecan or chocolate chip scones
Corn muffins
Deep Chocolate or Chocolate Chip muffins (their muffins are perfect; neither greasy nor dry)
They make a mini (single serving) carrot cake that's out of this world. They use a mini bundt pan, about 3"-4" in diameter, for them, then slice them horizontally and put what would normally be the creamcheese frosting on a standard carrot cake, as a filling in the middle, and dust the top with powdered sugar.
The "Opera Torte" which is similar to an individual Tiramisu pastry but better.
Jackie makes some of the most spectacular special-occasion cakes (birthday, wedding, you name it she does it) I've ever seen in my life. They are truly works of art, the kind of thing you look at and say "it's too pretty to eat" -- but they taste as good as they look.
Great, now I'm craving one of those carrot cakes but Jacqueline's is closed on Mondays!

I like Jacqueline's , too. And, it has such a wonderful atmosphere with the brick fireplace and all. You can eat right inside & have hot tea or coffee and on a rainy day, there is no place more cozy.

Wilhelms in Babylon Village. Awesome challah bread and cakes.
I never heard of Jacqueline's. How long has it been in Babylon and where is it?
