...alrighty. This will vary by Township I presume but what are the thoughts of the board on the notification guidelines of a homeowner, on double lot, who is supposedly looking to convert a newly constructed "guest house" into an eventual rental unit. This is in the Town of Smithtown, but has anyone else heard about this? I view it as an end around to not having gotten approval to build a straight rental property and wanting to get it approved under the radar. This is an area home that is homeowner occupied and already has two rental units within their current home. Maybe some of the builders on this board could shed some light.
Much obliged,
JRP
This doesn't sound right. He already has two rental units within his home? They can't possibly be legal. Did he get permits for the "guest house" when he built it? I can't imagine the town allowing four units total on one property.

He got permits for the guest house, under the guise that it would simply be that. I am not naive enough to think that he would not eventually take on tenants.
