NHL died the day they brought the Europeans/Russians in. Bring back the Broad Street Bullies, Tiger Williams, Ted Lindsay, Fern Flayman, Orland Kurtenbach, etc.

...if you think that hockey should be more like professional wrestling as opposed to a team sport.
The game is faster and better than ever as long as the rules are followed. (Funny, all the announcers who complain about the rules are former unskilled Canadian goons like Mike Milbury, famous for assaulting a fan with a shoe).
People who think fighting makes hockey better should switch to MMA for their blood lust. I like hockey as a team sport, especially playoff hockey. The game stands on it's own merits.

let's bring back leather helmets for football and exclude minorities for baseball while we're at it!
Agree 100%. Even when the Rangers are winning I don't like the style or "system." Endless cycling, no crease or slot presence, never a screen. Rarely a tip in except when Cally plants himself in front and he's not the guy for that job. Phil Esposito made a HoF career out of it. Clearly Torts never watched a tape. You nailed it with that 4th line grinder description. Nash going 1 on 4 all night becasue he has no help and he's trained all his life not to dump in the corner unless it's to get a line change or someone is heading that way. He's looking to make plays. Isles playing loose, fun, steady lines, fast and free, nothing to lose. Rangers uptight, anxious, pressured, no chemistry (due to constant assignment changes). Torts is an idiot. Team has talent and heart. They have a horrible strategic vision and that's 100% on Torts.
Spot on as well. "Nash isn't producing". Kinda hard to do when the other 2 forwards on his line refuse to skate towards the blue line until the puck is dumped because they're scared of their jerky coach.
I enjoyed watching the Islanders on Sunday so much more than watching the Rangers the last few nights, and I'm a Ranger fan who used to hate the Isles. Did I just see 2 guys SKATE the puck over the blue line? Did I just see a give and go and a guy flying towards the net? Well, actually, I watched the Caps do that all night too, just not my team...
And somebody please take Richards and his bloated salary. He stinks..and he's one of Torts "guys". That salary cap disaster should be on his head 100%
Notice how few Europeans are on the team after Gaborik got railroaded? Meanwhile a team whose best players are Russians and Swedes are skating circles around your stupid system, Torts. A team needs a MIX of players.

I've heard a lot of crap but this tops it. What you are saying is essentually that Jagr, Bure, Gaborick, dare I say Malkin should be out of the league, and make the league full of Yablonskis?

Reason: Grammar

...Forseberg, Lidstrom, Sundin, Ovechkin, Bure, Malkin, Mogilny, Selanne, Jagr, Hasek, Chara, Gaborik...yeah, those Euros really watered the game down.
Actually, because of their inclusion the league over-expanded, but that's not their fault.

OK, I was at that game and loved that the Bruins went into the stands. Some New Jersey jerk grabbed Stan Jonathan's stick and tried to punch him in the head. Old time hockey and great team spirit. Funny watching the Ranger players standing around going "WTF?! Where'd those guys go?"
And fighting has a place, strategically. To protect a scorer, turn the momentum, get the crowd back into a game, save face in a rout. It should be a small strategic part of the game and not a reason to watch it. Notice the Rangers 1st place last year and also the fighting-est team in the league. This year, down 4-0 in a game, getting tossed around and no retaliation. It matters. It's not a coincidence. Don't want MMA (although I am a big fan and am involved) and especially not WWE, but like you said, there are rules. Fighting is part of the game. Enforce the rules as they stand. Let the team decide if it's worth the major in a particular situation. And the Europeans are holding their own in the physical department quite well. They're NHL players. This isn't 1980. Anyone think Ovi doesn't throw enough hits. Not since the way old Gordie Howe days did top goal scorers throw the body around like this guy.

This is funny. What's funnier is some of these take your post seriously. As for the leather helmet in football since RB's aren't permitted to lower their heads anymore it may not be too long before the game is played with flags or two hand touch.
