I've taken up bike riding recently around the Western Nassau/GC area and have found that most places are pretty much impassable by bike (no sidewalk, street crossing, sloped street edge, blocking highway signs, etc). Are there any routes around here that you know of that a bike could easily travel?
Bethpage Bike Path - start at Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue, cross Sunrise Highway, take the path to the LIE - Plainview / Woodbury. Incredible ride.....

There's a lot of new bike paths in Uniondale in the Nassau Collesium/Hofstra/Museum Row area. They run along the north side of Hempstead Turnpike, and all along Earl Ovington Boulevard, Charles Lindberg Boulevard, and that whole vicinity.
There's also the bike path along the Wantagh Parkway to Joenes Beach-- I love that one. Enter at Cedar Creek Park to avoid paying for the Jones Beach parking.
I'm not a fan of biking at Eisenhower Park-- it's too short for me.
I plan on rising that Bethpage path next weekend. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I looked on Google Streetview, and it does seem to cross Bethpage Parkway ramps, though.

It does, but its no real big deal. The cars on that road are mostly aware of the fact that there's a bike path and they take it slow on and off the ramps.

I second this. You could also start at the entrance next to the Massapequa train station. There's a small lot adjacent to the LIRR lot for convenient parking. Excellent ride. And don't dismiss the hot dog truck usually parked there. He is cool and runs a super clean operation...the dogs are cheap and great.
You should see what they did out in suffolk. They created bike paths on major roads. 454 is one of them.
