Hey I remember a thread some time ago about Sal's Meats being forced to close in Massapequa because of Uncle Giuseppe's. Well they've reopened in the ACE strip mall on Merrick Rd across from John Burns Park. Just thought you'd like to know.
I have to laugh at the sentiment surrounding sal's. although they made a good homemade roast beef and turkey sandwich, they certainly weren't giving anything away. Sal's was/is very pricey. I knew a worker in the butcher area who explained how dynamite is used. Its a white powder that when sprinkled on old meat makes it look red and fresh. he also explained how they would throw everything that was left over,(bologna, or other cold cut ends as well as other scraps) into their chop meat mix. yum. a few butchers told me if you don't actually know a butcher, your better off buying your meats at the food store where they are regularly inspected. enjoy Sal's
