Middle Island but close to Gordon hts...how bad?
I am looking at the area and have been told that Gordon Heights is bad, but the area I am looking at is closer to 25 and to the left of that golf course- spring lake i believe. Is this an okay area?

Its ok, but its not Gordon Heights thats scary.
Its the trailer trash down at the Middle Island Wal Mart that you should really be afraid of.
Go spend a Saturday with some of the local Section 8, Acid Washed, NASCAR fans and ask yourself...
"Is this who I want for neighbors?"
If you really want Longwood, I'd definitely go with Ridge or Yaphank.
Theyre both very nice.
Otherwise smart money might buy to the North.
Sound Beach/Rocky Point/Wading River area
Best

I'd take Middle Island over Gordon Heights anyday. There's actually some real nice parts of Middle Island, and there are 40 sex offenders living in Gordon Heights, according to familywatchdog.us

Yaphank and Ridge rarely make the "very nice" list for long island...seriously.

Spoken like a true outsider.
The Pine Barrens are one of the most beatiful parts of the Island .
Natives know it.
You really should explore beyond 111.
Thats like judging CT by Fairfield county alone.

Today I had to go out to Yaphank and I was amazed at how beautiful it is out there. It's like the Long Island of the past. It was wonderful and surprising to see how much open space is there. I guess that (Horseblock-Yaphank Roads) is part of the pine barrens ; it is worth every penny to guard that lovely open space.

wow...that's a pretty harsh comment, have you ever lived in eith place? Or even spent more than 30 seconds speeding through on your way to the outlets? The OP was asking about an area with lower priced homes in THIS part of suffolk county. We wouldn't be foolish enough to suggest old field or belle terre. Where do you suggest the OP look that has a similar price point to Middle Island?

Well as harsh as the comment may have been...he/she is right. Some areas are nice & some suck. Yaphank & Ridge both I'd stay away from.
