Isn't Artist Lake a private community? I never felt uneasy in Middle Island, once you get west of Walmart (toward Coram) it gets a little hairy.

I've been to the Middle Island Walmart, it's actually one of my favorite ones, being it's all old school, they got better sales there. As far as the people, they seemed fine to me. Maybe there were some "Pineys" (aka pine barrens hillbillies) but I dont have a problem with them. I'll take some Billybobs over Pedros anyday.

I Am going to tell you the same thing i tell everyone..... Go and do your own research, the reason long island has the problems it does is because people are to lazy to go and research the neighborhood they want to live in.... Instead they ask other people, other people might like to shoot and live near the shoting range, they may like to race cars, or race dirt bikes. You may be asking these people and then you move in and instead of dealing with it, you ***** like everyother idiot that made the same mistake.. Now get in your car and go and drive around the neighborhood at different times and different days and make your own decision.. You don't even know the people on this board and you'll leave it to them to make your lifes decision.....and then oooops you don't like it and need to sell in a recession and move....riiight good thinking.. |

Forgive me for not reading through all these posts but I think I read enough with this "not as bad as Harlem" rhetoric. Whats up with that??? Sounds pretty racist to ME. I happen to like walking through Harlem and I'm a white Jew that grew up in the Boros as a kid. Actually I just brought t some out of town guests and their daughter along with my daughter (pic below) and her boyfriend to the Apollo Theater just a few months ago to Amateur night. We dined at a great soul food restaurant Sylvia's.
Beauty & Hair Care Products ( and no,we didn't get the hair care products) Growing up in the boros as a kid I had a lot of black and Asian and Spanish friends. It wasn't till I came to Long Island that I experienced racism. It really disgusts me and amazes me all in the same breath in this day and age. I guess some things will never change. I suppose what irks me more than anything...not just in the LI forum but in many others as well_is the generalizing and blanket statements made by arm chair warriors with lots of opinions and complaints. I truly wonder how many of the complainers actually DO ANYTHING other than sit and type posts and letters. I'd been accused just recently by a fellow LI poster here of being a hypocrite.. of not writing my Congressman to try and get kids from Huntington Station bussed into the Cold Spring Harbor school system (don't even ask...ugh). I went into a long rant about how I spent ten years of my life devoted to kids for no pay(on top of me being a single parent for five years back then taking care of my one year old alone), kids of all colors and back grounds ...the poster still comes back and continues to ask me why I hadn't answered their question after I explained all that I'd "physically and emotionally done". I in turn after responding asked what they'd ever physically done to help underprivileged kids. Still no reply but I really don't need to push the issue. Actually it was a rhetorical question on my part to make a small point. Then in a North Carolina thread someone was going on and on and on about how people in gated communities are elitists and arrogant so I question him about labeling hundreds...maybe thousands of people as elitists and arrogant, and snobs. Personally I don't care for gated communities but live and let live. I mean doesn't it ever stop people? Don't people think before they spout out some of these statements? and again...I wonder how many people actually have done anything of substance to help this planet and the people on it rather than complain. Don't some of you realize that every time your point your finger there's three pointing back at you? I don't even want a response to my post and I'm not singling anyone out because I'm sure some people don't even realize what they're saying but thats my point. You do hurt people and it doesn't take much to get along and make your neighbor smile...even if you don't agree with them. Does anyone really think that all this negativity is going to change anything other than feed some egos? So with the new year coming upon us...maybe give it a little thought ![]() and here's a word y'all might wanna look up "NAMASTE". Be well, andy Namaste' I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells, I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace, When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me we are One Last edited by andybuildz; 12-21-2007 at 06:14 PM. |

I think it is all something of a fine line...people tend to want to live in communities of people who are similar. In some cases, it is skin color, but in others it could profession, income, education, ethnicity. I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem when one makes a blanket statement about one group (i.e. 'worse than Harlem') when the truth is that there are many contributing factors. It has taken me a long time to come to that realization; I grew up in a home with a parent who hated blacks. I attended a lily white school district and when I went away to a SUNY school -- CULTURE SHOCK! Over the years I've come to unlearn stereotypes and develop an honest respect for anyone who works hard to better themselves and achieve their goals. However, when you get a poor area, limited parental involvement or absent parents, and the lure of easy money selling drugs, there's going to be a problem -- no matter who is involved. |

I knew a lot of kids in "Hewlett Harbor" when I was growing up that, that could apply to....."several" of them died back then in the late 60's. Easy anything has no borders. Far as I can tell...anything worth while takes work of some kind. Be well andy ![]() |
