My family and I head out to Caumsett, Caleb Smith State Park, Avalon and out to Mashomack Preserve. Where do all of you fitness and outdoors people head to check out nature and get your heart pumping on the weekends?

Cold Spring Harbor, Route 25A, is a nice trail that I felt was challenging. You can pick it up in the parking lot across from the Harbor.

Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt Trail near Cold Spring Harbor, NY - a hiking trail

OP, you mentioned Avalon by Stony Brook which was nice! I never heard of Mashomack Preserve but want to check it out now!

I'd like to try that part of the Greenbelt Trail, LovemyKats. I've done a bit of the LI Greenbelt in Caleb Smith, which is nice but short. Yes, Avalon is a great adventure, Mashomack is worth the trip out to Greenport and ferry to Shelter Island.

We loved Avalon when we lived in Stony Brook.

Mashomack on Shelter Island was introduced to me by relatives of my wife who live on Shelter Island.
It's really quite beautiful and other worldly.

Agreed and also check out the sculpture park at the nassau county museum of art in Roslyn, the mutton town preserve, and the Flanders nature center in Woodbury.

Yes. Step outside your parents' basement once in a while and take a look
According to your you tube video, look left as you leave daddy's front door and there are a bunch of trees just waving back at ya,lol.
