I like the ranch houses, but it was too rigid in design. Needed color. The 14 Craig street had nice woodwork in the kitchen, but the wrought iron killed the deal for me.
That ranch looks like something you can buy for half price in another similar town and then renovate to make it look exactly the same for a few more $grand.
In Jericho, a 10000 sqft lot will cost you $500k;
The structure itself could cost 300k easily.
I saw a Great Neck appraisal report, and appraiser uses $150/sqft for main level cost and $50/sqft for basement cost. The ranch has 1900 sqft on main level and 1900 sqft on basement.
1900*150+ 1900*50 = 380k construction cost.
Taking consideration that this is a renovation instead of new construction, we can reduce it by 20% to make construction cost = 380k*0.8 = 304k

It all depends on the extend to which these were renovated. Sometimes adding to old can be more expensive when the surprises pop up -- like old wiring, termite damage, issues with older framing, bringing the house to meet current code, etc.
Even if I had the money, I wouldn't pay 900K anywhere without a 3 car garage these days. I realize it's still rare on Long Island though.
I've seen a nice house with a 3 car garage around here. Thought it was a complete waste of space, personally. ~60% of the 1st floor was not living area.

Not always true....I guess it depends on where you live, builder and house plan, that's all I'm saying on the subject.
