We recently moved to NY from Europe and settled in Great neck. Our son is 3 and half years old. We are looking for the day care/preschool for him. We prefer the private school with preschool, so the kid will have friends to grow up together till middle school. Is there any recommendation?
I only found North Shore Hebrew Academy, but it is Jewish school and we are not Jewish

^I think the OP wants a school that goes from preschool through elementary. I can't think of any secular private schools in Great Neck. There's the Portledge School and Friends Academy in Locust Valley. There's another Friends school in Westbury if you consider Quaker non-religious. The East Woods School is in Oyster Bay. There's a Waldorf School in Garden City. There really aren't a lot of secular private schools on Long Island. Most people, even the very affluent, send their children to public schools.

thank you so much for the response. I found there were not much choice either and we are thinking to live in Manhattan. There is more choice, but it is really expensive to live in Manhattan.

Good thing you only have one child, you can get a 2 bedroom apartment. Prices are high now and climbing. Private school is about $40,000 per year, but they don't just let anyone in, you usually need connections and it helps if one parent is an alumnus. If your son is 3 and a half already you had better get started very soon. Go for it.
Another vote for Buckley if you are in the great neck area. The only true day private school around. It's not a Groton or St. Pauls like a true elite bordering school or a Trinity or Dalton in NYC, but I guess we are talking about day elementary schools here. I did feel that most of the kids could get in with the right coaching. Get ready to participate in the rat race! They start them young in Manhattan.
There are also private schools near by Great Neck in Queens, which will provide bus transportation. The elite private schools in Manhattan, do indeed have waiting lists, and sometimes require connections and a donation. If you sent your child to one of the private Great Neck preschools by your home, many of the children in your child's class would be moving on to kindergarten in the same public school as your child so I don't understand why you are concerned that your child would not know anyone in elementary school.
My husband went to preschool - 8th grade at private school with the same kids and hated it. Why not take it one school at a time? If you find a preschool in your area, I'm sure all the kids will be scattering to the same few elementary schools.
