It's mentalities like these that keep people coming to Planet Fitness. Everyone has to start somewhere, and most could do without derogatory opinions like this.

I've heard people say this about Planet Fitness, but I haven't really seen it.
OK, I have seen some very old or out of shape people there, but I've seen some really fit people there too. Some people just appreciate having a cheap gym. For me, Planet Fitness was a supplemental membership so that I could work out near my office (no NYSC nearby)
I go to Healthtrax which is ~$60 a month. It's a steep price but the gym is gorgeous with tons of fitness classes and a pool. Unfortunately the only location in NY is in Garden City. The Healthrax here is in affiliation with Winthrop, so if your a Winthrop employee you get a discount.
I used to go to LA fitness which I think averages around $50 per month when I was a member. The gym itself was nice but it was almost always crowded and the management was very rude which is why I stopped going there.
The "fatties" comment is just plain rude. If anything, people who are overweight should be applauded for joining a gym and trying to start the hard process of losing weight and getting fit again. Heavy people are actually intimidated by gyms who love to give out memberships to only those who are skinny and muscle-bound - it makes it that much harder for them to go to the gym on any regular basis.
I'm lucky. I got a free lifetime membership when I retired for both me and my husband! Problem is, since we aren't paying for it, there's less motivation to keep going. Oh well.
