It is only visible from the north shore which runs across Nassau and Suffolk County. I should know -- I live there.
We used to be able to see Connecticut on clear winter days from Strongs Neck which is across the sand bar in Port Jefferson Harbor, near where you are obh , I think. Fifty years ago (or more ) , the only viable television came from New Haven & sometimes Providence.

When I was a kid (back in the day) we used to climb a hill, or even stand on our roof, and we'd be able to see Connecticut in the distance. Trees have grown too much to be able to do that now. We live about three miles from the north shore.
This is my point. It can only be seen from a certain part of Suffolk County. Stating that one can see CT from Suffolk County fails to take into account that a significant portion of Suffolk County isn't close enough to the Sound to see CT.
