We recently moved in to a 50 yr old home in Melville. Looking at the free home inspection advertised by the Town of Huntington we went ahead and scheduled for it and Green Homes performed the home inspection for us. The home inspection mainly looks for the health and safety of the home and energy efficiency of the home. The inspector found a major CO leak in the water heater. As per my understanding CO leak is hazardous and should be immediately treated. But we have a CO detector at home, in the basement and that does not detect the leak that is supposed to be there. Also the water heater and the furnace is brand new, just a couple months old.
Any advice on this situation is highly appreciated.
When I got my Home inspection for my condo the inspector detected Co coming from the airvents of the furnace. IF you have forced air it could be the furnace. is the furnace is old the element where the flame is could be rusted and causing CO to go out into the air vents. Home inspectors usually have Co detectors that are more precise then those that go on your ceiling.
correct, call the F.D. They will be there asap and test for free.
They will however come with lights and sirens on....
