Your anger should be directed at the management. The conductor cannot have discretion about stuff like that because they dont know whether or not you are a plant sent to try get them in trouble. So she decides to listen to your sob story which she probably hears 100 variations of every week, then the next day she is called in by management and given 3 months on the street with no way to pay her bills. The management creates the adversarial relationship employees have with customers.

Oh, brother, now I've heard it all!

LMAO!

No way to pay her bills? Boo hoo! Get another job like anyone else! Or is she too spoiled for that or afraid she might have to talk to people like human beings in the private sector?

As if that could even ever happen to a public sector union employee, especially in the LIRR, the home of the phony disability retirement scam that lasted for decades and decades, a scam done by hundreds, maybe thousands of employees, and resulted in slaps on the wrist instead of JAIL TIME and COMPLETE forfeitures of pensions, which is what these criminals deserved.

How stupid do you think we are?

Go spin your moronic fairy tales somewhere else!

PS: I see ticket punchers exercise plenty of discretion with muscled drunks and hockey fans when it comes to not taking their tickets or charging them ... nobody worries if they are "plants" ... wonder why ... LMAO!

OMG give me a break! When you work for a company and are in a position that interacts with customers, you have to actually INTERACT with them, like you know, TALK and LISTEN. That's like complaining about having to listen to customers when you work in customer service for a living.

She's a ticket collector. She collects tickets. She asked me for mine and I explained to her why I didn't have a ticket to go from Bellerose to Jamaica. She made a snide comment and punched my ticket from Penn to Bethpage. She was rude to me for no reason, considering it's HER company that is at fault here. I was NOT rude to her until after she was rude to me.

Get over yourself. Didn't you say you work for the LIRR? It shows.

I thought about this thread when I was on the LIRR yesterday. The signs at Jamaica said that the train was making all stops to Atlantic Terminal (it listed all the stops in the marquee, and the top right corner read "ALL STOPS"). Well, on the train, the automated voice said that it was a non-stop express to Atlantic Terminal. This was a delight for me, because it meant I got to skip two stops. What was annoying was that the lady sitting behind me didn't realize this disparity until the conductor came to punch her ticket and told her that the train wasn't stopping at Nordstrom Avenue. Mind you, by this point, we're entering the Atlantic Avenue tunnel. She looked really overwhelmed, I get the impression that she wasn't from the area. The conductor took her ticket and told her to take a local train back from Atlantic Terminal. I was annoyed for her, because that was clearly a LIRR error-- the sign highlighted the fact that it was a local making all stops.

Again, the LIRR is messed up from the top down. The management is screwed up, and it spills over into the whole agency-- conductors included. I guess the balance is that I've seen so many people come up with elaborate stories to get out of paying for a ticket, so I guess the MTA gets sort of jaded in that regard-- having to discern who is lying and who's telling the truth.

On a side note, they REALLY need to fix the signs at Jamaica. I almost boarded a non-stop express to Babylon one time when I was only intending on going to Mineola. Imagine how fun a ride that would've been

Agree with all this, its just a bad situation all around. Both employees and the public have their backs against the wall due to economic conditions. Its a symptom of how toxic the entire system is.

When you eventually got on the right train home, did they punch the 10 trip again?

No - I actually didn't even get a train to Bethpage from Jamaica. I had to take a train to Hicksville and pay for a cab to get to Bethpage.

If someone tried to punch my 10-trip again I would have flipped a lid.

Usually, the collectors are pretty good with the 10-trips. If they're not sure, they usually ask me before punching and I'm ALWAYS honest. If it should have been punched, but wasn't, I tell them.

It was just this one case with this woman who really handled my situation horribly.

Woman conductors are usually very nice or very nasty. Im often amazed why the LIRR seems to choose female conductors that are, by far, some of the most unattractive and not physically fit women.

I agree with the 1st sentence.

The newer female collectors I notice are more younger & attractive. I noticed a few male collectors who are morbidly obese. I recall one guy who almost has to walk sideways down the aisle.....There has to be a size limit because they are struggle to do their jobs imo.....then there is one who was too tall...his head scrapes the top end of the entrances.
