Try again. It would seem to be more a matter of not being a part of the mainstream culture than social safety nets.

From the above article..

. Kids as young as 12 belong to gun groups in their local communities, where they learn sharpshooting.

Could you imagine the chimp screaming by all the LI soccer moms and emasculated dads if little Bruce even laid his eyes on an evil gun.

I'm shocked to come back here this morning and see that this post has turned into a gun debate /sarcasm/. Anyone know if the guy from yesterday was caught?

Nevermind, just found out that police found the guy's car, but the shooter is still at large. Car was abandoned somewhere in the Hudson Valley.

Poverty has no relation to crime?! Hmm, which NRA sponsored sociology text did this pearl come from?
Guns are awesome. I love them. They just don't mix well with poverty, mental illness, religious zealotry, alcohol and many of our glorious freedoms. Gotta find a balance somewhere. Not sure anyone on either side of the debate cares for compromise. Each sees giving an inch as a slippery slope. To where I have no idea.

Isn't the whole idea to have gun liberty for 2nd amendment reasons?! Right to militia and all that jazz? Protect the republic. Protection from govt tyranny? When did it become for "the right to kill fellow citizens who are less fortunate and scare me?" I didn't see that in the constitution.

Note: none of those Swiss children had to sell drugs to get out of the projects, go to school hungry, join a gang to protect themselves, or deal with a failed school that does little more than babysit. And they all have access to robust healthcare including mental healthcare. But of course it was just the firearms training.

Said the old white man who grew up in a time and place of relative privilege and plenty and cannot even imagine what it is like to face true poverty or institutional racism. Oh snap I said race! But you can't be a racist because you never use the N-word (in public), right?

Yeah see it's actually both, since either they don't have money for food (hungry), or they have just a little money for food, which translates into cheap processed food that makes you fat. Not that I expect you to actually understand nutrition, since conservative thought is entirely based on "common sense" and "what feels right to out-of-touch old people" rather than study and logic.
