The one thing I don't get with these companies. I'm a great customer, pay on time, no service calls, etc. so why does every company throw a high number when negotiating renewal contracts? It's annoying. You have to switch companies every year for the lowest price. Just how it is.

More reason to switch to gas if you can, which I'm itching to do.

The only thing I would suggest is that people check the BBB records of these companies. I know BBB isn't perfect, but the last time I checked Petro, for example, there were a slew of complaints. People who take the time and effort to go to the BBB are usually pretty angry with their suppliers and if you see the number of complaints in the double digits, that's not usually a good sign.

A quick google search suggests it's much less, in this article about $7,000. Do you have any special requirements that it would cost $86,000?

$7,000 is basically if your neighbors already have it.

Once you start talking about bringing in a line from the next block..forget it.

I have gas for the stove and water heater, is that what you mean about having a line?

National Grid charges $75 per square foot to extend the gas lines to your home, so if your block (or, god forbid, blocks) doesn't have gas, you are SOL.

We're talking about Natual Gas, not propane.

Dealing with propane companies around here is worse than dealing with heating oil companies. They all pretty much SUCK.
