Hello everyone, I am new here and would like some advice.

I rent a single family one story home.

The basement has been occupied for years before my brother and I moved in.
I just found out that the utilities are not separate. I pay for all the oil and electric.

This was not disclosed in the rental agreement.

Anyone have advice for me?

Thank you in advance

Advice about what? You rent a home and pay for oil and electric. Sounds pretty normal to me. Leave out some details in your OP?

Sounds like there is a tenant in the basement using oil and electric paid for by the OP.

My advice is to move; there's no way you're going to resolve this amicably.

How long have you been paying for someone elses utilities?
You havent noticed there is only one electric meter on the house?
You didnt think that your bills were higher than they ought to be?

My first action would be to ask the landlord what the deal is. If I didnt like where that went, I would call LIPA and complain about your bill that it's too high for your usage, playing dumb.

You've got a deceitful landlord. If you have a written lease and it wasn't stated in the lease that there is someone living in the basement, the lease isn't legal. You can move at any time without causing any legal problems for yourself.
