I would think most Long Islanders would be ok with this and a $25 toll would not be an issue (soon we will be paying over $5 to cross Whitestone/Throgs Neck and who knows what the extra cost in gasoline will be by then) . I suppose the impact north of rt 25 would not be that great - no extra traffic, no bridge . What a great idea.
A greater concern for those who want this accomplished would be people who live up in Westchester who really have no need for a "tunnel to Syosset" (although it will be great for people up there who love ocean beaches).....
There may be greater opposition on the other side....

oh I would be so happy. I travel to Westchester 2-3x a month, it would make my life so much easier! I would totally pay the $25 to avoid the headache of going up the Cross Island to the Throgs Neck to 95, etc

What a great idea -- no more coming thru NYC when we drive home to see family. I doubt it will ever be built, though.

One problem with the proposal, this tunnel would be for traffic only. Where's the rail connection? Because without rails, this tunnel would only create more traffic, and would be of no help to commuters.

A very dumb idea.
For the first few years, the tunnel will be great. But over time, people living in Westchester and Connectiuct who currently will not drive to LI because it takes too long, will start taking jobs on LI. Long Islanders will start taking jobs in Westchester and CT. So 10 to 20 years after it opens, the traffic and gridlock on LI will be much worse than it is now. And the tunnel will be bumper to bumper.
When they opened the Tappan Zee Bridge in 1956, there were so few cars on it you could have played a touch football game on it. Look at it now. The same will happen to a LI Sound tunnel.
