Do you have an eye-opening Long Island story?
Hello! I am a journalism major studying at Suffolk County Community College and I was recently given an assignment for the student newspaper to investigate a story on any topic relevant to Long Island. If you have an interesting story to tell about a certain experience you've had on Long Island, I'd love to hear it! I understand that many people believe that student newspapers don't have the capacity to make impacts as a larger paper would but if the story has the ability to raise questions on issues that haven't been addressed, it may be possible. Even if the story is simply unique and fun-loving, please share it.
Thank you for your time! I hope to hear from you all soon!

I'm sorry that no one responded to your post (maybe everyone's tired from all that turkey), but if you will check some of the former posts (FAMOUS LONG ISLAND CRIMES, HOW DID YOUR TOWN GET ITS NAME ? ; for example ) , maybe you'll see something that interests you & you can Google it to get more information . Good luck with your assignment .

You could try this
Go to a busy corner in Nassau County, and count the various scofflaws yakking on their cellphones while trying to make a left turn across traffic, ignoring pedestrians in crosswalks, and narrowly missing 12 year old girls riding their bikes.
Go to a comparable corner in a civilized place, and count the number of nanoseconds that it takes Law Enforcement to give these idiots a well deserved TICKET.

Seriously Dedalus...you could be standing on the corner of anywhere in America...so as I read in another post of yours you might try to relocate to the Bronx or Staten Island if a new position in Jersey arose...how would those areas differ from your portrait of a corner in Nassau County? I am sure you will regale me with another rant about LI that of course provides no direct response to my question. Dedalus, knock the chip off the shoulder and smile every now and again...
To the OP, I would troll the threads and I am sure they will provide ample background for you.

What I suggested was a statistical study. Perhaps, I am wrong; such a study would prove that, or not.
The city of Alameda, CA, where I once spent many a pleasant hour, ran a little sting operation. A pedestrian spent the entire day...crossing the street. In the crosswalk. Some people, in the fashion of the locals here, ignored him. Since the "pedestrian" was, in fact, a cop, each and every one was cited for a moving violation.
In civilized society, people without cars are recognized as...people?

Tying the American Dream to home ownership was a marketing ploy by RE's rather than fact.

So your suggestion to our journalism major is to note how uncivilized nassau county street corners are...in a statistical manner...I should have gotten the empirical tone of your suggestion from your commentary..my fault entirely

Sure. You get lots of downtime as a pedestrian out here in this burboid wasteland, waiting for the endless line of speeding, cell phone yakking boobs to pass so you can cross the street and get to the other side...rather than to the emergency room at the local hospital.

As with all reporters what limitations do you have on reporting ? Another words what do your editors or bosses say is taboo whats OK or on the agenda to talk about ?
Im referring to the Dolans, News 12 and Newsday here (the people that supplied most the computers, wiring and routing hardware in your school)
For example:
Some years ago I worked at a certain media company and know 2 people that were put in thumbscrews and eventually FIRED for doing storys about black on white crime in the public schools.
