Today was a bad day for me, I went to Stony Brook Ophthalmology, they said I have some series issues with my eyes. If I don't take care of it, I can loose my eyesight.
I was thinking, if I loose eyesight, what I would become, first, I will lose my job because I work with computers. How can I work on it if I can't see it? second, I was thinking for any job, you need your eyes.
I was going to come in here making jokes, but then I saw that it was a serious subject. Sorry for your troubles.
I'll make the joke a year from now when you won't see it.
Please take care of it and do not skimp see the best eye doc that you can afford. Hopefully you have ins. that cover it. If you don't mind me asking is it due to diabetes?
Know that I personal but I will share that my brothers was.Hope you can beat this! In terms of computer (especially for work) the job has to provide for you. Meaing there are voice activated computers/speaking computers. Falls under ADA Americans With Disabilities Act.
Also be assured that advances are being made all the time. My bro (in Fla) recently had corneal implants and is doing wonderful from what I have been told. No driving though but able to swim, walk to stores, take cabs, all on his own. So there is hope for the future that he will be able to drive again.
My Brother had plenty of services available to him and wonderful support system. Hopefully you have same. SB is good but have no personal experience to really help you with. Have they recommended or started laser treatments to slow the process? If not ASK!
I know it is far but there are good places in NYC that you can look into if insurance can help.
Please feel free to send me a DM (direct message) in case I can be of any support.
Good Luck
Bell

Reason: Add ADA
Thank you so much for your kind words. I have Glaucoma. I was told to apply eye drops three times a day. It's very expensive. I was doing it once a day which increased eye pressure so much. I do have insurance but even with a insurance it's expensive.
When doctor was talking to me yesterday, so many questions came to me. I just wanted to get ready in case if something goes wrong so I can get ready.
If your sight diminishes to the point of legal blindness, you can get help from the NYS Commission for the Blind. They primarily help folks find and keep their job, even with total vision loss. Many pieces of adaptive equipment (including computers) are out their and the Commission can help. They also help with independent living skills if you are legally blind.
Hopefully you will be able to work with your doctor to save your sight. But if your vision diminishes to the point of blindness, you can contact the Commission's Long Island office at (516) 564-4311.

OMG, I will become homeless..
Which DR did you see? They have one of the best specialists there for glaucoma in Dr. Hokkanen (sp?).
If you didn't see him, see if you can.
